1. Realize that you are a sinner. "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:10, 3:23)

2. Understand that to pay for your sin you must die and go to hell. "For the wages of sin is death; (Romans 6:23) the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments" (Luke 16:22,23)

3. Recognize that God saw your predicament and sent His son, Jesus Christ, to take your penalty and die in your stead. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8). "but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

4. Make the decision to trust His finished work and place your faith upon Him. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9,10)
